[ARCHIVED] Spring Load Restrictions will be Lifted Monday, April 24th

UPDATE: SPRING LOAD WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS WILL BE LIFTED on MONDAY, APRIL 24th, 2023 at 12:01 AM

All roads in Mahtomedi are 5 Tons with the exception of Long Lake Road to Dunbar Way, which is 7 Tons to accommodate the FedEx trucks.

Weight restrictions are implemented each year in an effort to preserve and protect Mahtomedi’s road system during the thawing and refreezing associated with spring.
Streets are weakened during the spring thaw by water that becomes trapped in the gravel base below the pavement. The weight of vehicles traveling over these roads can cause the road to bend and possibly crack.

Limiting the amount of weight on the street during this time will minimize the wear and allow the base adequate time to stabilize.
